Rwanda Immigration: New Work Permit Processing Updates

The Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration has announced key changes to the work permit renewal process effective 1 July 2026.

Key Changes

  • Online Applications: All permit renewals must now be submitted through the irembo.gov.rw portal
  • Processing Time: Reduced from 30 to 15 working days
  • Early Renewal: Applications can now be submitted 90 days before expiry (previously 60 days)
  • Document Requirements: Employer letter must be dated within 30 days of application
